Property owners/water customers have a responsibility to keep the space around the meter box clear and free of any obstructions, including overgrown vegetation, shrubs, planter boxes, retaining walls or any other improvements that encroach on the meter box site and interferes with District employees gaining access to our equipment. PLEASE NOTE THAT the District has THE right to remove such obstructions and charge property ownerS for THE COST OF LABOR Should the customer fail to provide the necessary clearance around our meter box
In the interest of giving property owners/water customers the opportunity to clear these obstructions without incurring any cost, we urge you to survey the area around your meter box and take the necessary action to fulfill this request. For your convenience, a small blue flag has been placed as a marker to easily identify and assist you with locating the meter box site on the frontage of your property. Left, are before and after examples that illustrate the clearance requirements. BEFORE: The meter box is overgrown with vegetation. AFTER: Same photo with an 18” clearance around the meter box Should you have any questions, please call the Utilities Department at (805) 528-9376.
